PAUF Notes: Tenured UTB Faculty Member reinstated
When four tenured faculty were fired from UTB in 2012, both the Texas Faculty Association and the National Education Association became concerned that the cases had national implications regarding the undermining of tenure.
Texas State Teachers Association Attorney Russell Ramirez was assigned to all four cases. Although everyone involved feared that it would be difficult to prevail on behalf of the faculty in the university-controlled appeals process, in one case at least a solution was found within the university. In December, one of the faculty was reinstated as a professor with tenure and full back salary, effective immediately. At this writing the other three are back at work, but in positions other than those originally held.
